Dr. Latera Akiens

 Latera Akiens was born in Savannah, GA but traveled across the country while his dad served in the U.S. military. Latera experienced different cultures and experiences throughout his lifetime that ultimately shaped and defined his love for people no matter what the circumstance. Tracing his heritage beginning with his white great-grandfather to the hands of his slave ancestors in the cotton fields of Mississippi, Latera's early childhood impacted his life significantly. His inquisitive regard for people followed him through his 20-year U.S. Air Force career, 20-year City of Memphis Fire Service career and Seminary school where he earned a PHD in Philosophy of Christian Psychology. 

Latera is a father of 6 children and 9 grandchildren and currently resides in Jackson, Tennessee with his wife Glenda
